Title: Continuing fitness to practise - Towards an evidence-based approach to revalidation
Author: Health Professions Council,
Abstract: This publication explored the context for the Labour government’s proposals to introduce revalidation for all health professions. The key findings were that further work was needed before any additional inspection regime was introduced by HPC. Unlike other regulatory bodies, HPC already had in place systems for bi-annual re-registration and monitoring of CPD activities. The report concluded that the risk posed to the public by the professions regulated by HPC overall was low, and public trust in these professions was high. The report recommended further investigation of the reasons behind poor conduct and professionalism, the use of structured service user feedback and further analysis of fitness to practice and CPD audit data as a means of making an informed decision about any further inspection regime that might be introduced in the future.
